Fall Newsletter 2018

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

If you need encouragement today from God, it is often worth reminding ourselves of how He has encouraged us in the past. Paul’s words to the Thessalonians remind us of that:

May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope [past], encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and
word [today]. (2 Th 2:16-17)

If you need encouragement today as you pray, give and volunteer to Tree of Life, be reminded that only last month, God enabled 606 individuals at our Back to School events to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. May you be strengthened and encouraged to new heights as we reach out to the poor and needy in our community with the love of Jesus Christ. Blessings, Paul Smith Executive Director, Tree of Life Ministries

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Welcome to our new team members!

Donna Gothard

As Chief Financial Officer and with the help of many others I manage the execution of financial transactions and related financial systems, information and processes at Tree of Life Ministries. All with the hope of making processes more efficient and easier to use by all as we continue to grow.

God in His perfect timing has put me in a position to serve using the places and skills he has blessed me with throughout my life. I’ve always wondered how working in finance all of my life would serve God but He has shown me that we are all useful in His service.  I am humbled and truly blessed to serve with such wonderful people in a great organization for the God I love.

Isabel Mayer

In my new role as the Regional Director of the Leesburg Region, I will support TOL with the expansion of the organization.  We will have the opportunity to show the love of Jesus throughout the Leesburg community by providing  assistance with food, shelter, clothing and overall life skills.  We have begun to provide free community meals, ESL classes, job readiness training and financial budget skills assistance. In 2019 we will have a pantry and more ministries offerings are to follow!

I am not sure if I chose TOL or if TOL chose me!  God placed TOL in my path in January 2017, shortly after my burden to do more for the Kingdom grew strong enough for me to say to the Lord, I am all yours – do as you wish.  I believe the Lord wants me to help those in need, specifically women, immigrants and international folks, so He has given me the honor to serve His children in the Leesburg area.

Back-To-School Clothing Event on Saturday, August 25th

The morning of August 25th dawned bright and clear and cooler for our annual Back-To-School Clothing Giveaway this year.  And in keeping with such a gorgeous morning, Tree of Life experienced a record turn out of partners looking for back-to-school clothing, newly donated backpacks filled with school supplies, and children receiving free haircuts for that back-to-school trim!

For the first time in our 10-year history, Tree of Life has grown to have volunteers and leadership ready to support this event in two locations, Purcellville and Leesburg, on the same day!   From across our county, close to 600 partners and children were received by 83 volunteers and heard the good news of Jesus Christ presented as they came into the respective centers.  During the event, 383 backpacks were distributed, and 50 haircuts were given out and most of the clothing was selected for the many children there.  God be praised!

Tree of Life is grateful to all our donors who contributed clothing to this event.  A special thanks to Valley Energy, Lowers Risk Group, Leesburg Community Church, St Peter’s Church, and Sandy Springs Bank who donated our backpacks filled with school supplies.  And, thank you to Jenny’s Hair Salon, Kelly Burrows Hippie Dippie Hair, and Hair color by Mary Jane for their haircut donations.

We are also thankful and blessed to have had Pastor Barrett Phillips from Cornerstone Chapel, and Pastor Bruce Gardner from Loudoun Valley Church of the Nazarene give their wonderful gospel presentations.  All in all, it was a wonderful community event glorifying our great God and Creator!
