TOL News Release:

Some Exciting News for the New Year! A new Micro Cottage Community.

As many of you will be aware, the Housing Ministry within our Tree of Life Shelter Branch has now been operational for almost 8 years. 57 have been accommodated in our apartments and we have seen an incredible 70% success rate with ladies leaving in a better place than when they arrived. We were blessed this past week with a personal testimony from one of our residents at a community breakfast. To use her own words: “Tree of Life didn’t just help me, Tree of Life changed my life.”

As we celebrate our 10th year of ministry, we have been praying about how we might explore the expansion of our housing ministry. We now impact 16,000 a year and a common theme that emerges across all 3 of our Regions is the need for affordable housing. Particularly, we feel led to try and establish a solution for two demographic groups who consistently cross our path – senior citizens and special needs adults.

During our time of discernment, the former motel site at Round Hill (Weona Villas) had been mentioned repeatedly and after considerable discussion with the current owner, Tree of Life has now contracted to purchase the site. We have a 4 month study period to determine the viability for housing and to begin the  process of costing the project and seeing if God opens doors for funding.

The concept we are pursuing is a Micro Cottage community. The cottages
are small in size and we are describing the objective as Micro Cottage ARCS – affordable, relational, community centric and sustainable. The plan is for a 5-phased approach, over time, to create a small community

of Micro Cottages, concentrating initially on accommodation for senior citizens. We plan to work hard to ensure the cottage construction material is harmonious with local Loudoun communities. Plans are at obviously at a very preliminary stage but early feedback from both the County and the Town of Round Hill has been very encouraging. In addition and quite remarkably, Tree of Life received a large donation at the end of 2018 to help with seed money for this community.

We are excited about what God maybe doing and the quote from the missionary of old springs to mind – “Attempt great things for God. Expect great things from God”. We are moving forward in faith and would relish your prayers along this new journey for Tree of Life.
