The Clothing Closet first opened its doors in June 2020, and since that date we have seen our impact across Loudoun grow steadily as we reach out to poor and need in our community with the love of Christ.

Our initial goal was a simple one – to make free clothing available year-round to those in need and to do so in a way that honors their dignity.  The need for clothing in Loudoun and surrounding areas was something we were well familiar with through our annual clothing giveaway events – each one saw hundreds of families showing up to receive much needed items for free.  Seeing this, we knew we needed to do more than just host these individual events.  When space became available on 21st Street in Purcellville, it was the opportunity for us to act upon the prompting we believed God was giving us and open our first ever thrift store – the Clothing Closet.

Each step of the process we were mindful to ensure that the store was one that anyone would be eager to visit and shop at, and that motivation brought forth the “boutique” style that appeals to so many. It is also why, when people call us requesting free clothing through our voucher program, we provide them with a private and dignified shopping experience for their family and the opportunity to choose from all the same clothing available for sale to the public.

The success of the store in Purcellville – both in filling the need for free clothing in our community and attracting customers – led to the opening of a second location in Leesburg in March of 2023.  This store, being more accessible to those residing in Eastern Loudoun, quickly saw a rise in the number of people in the area being able to make use of our voucher program and receive clothing and shoes for their families.

As of this summer, over 1100 people have received free clothing since we first opened our doors! The community contribution to the success of this ministry cannot be understated – because of the generous donations of clothing, shoes, and accessories from so many in Loudoun, we are able to provide so many families with what they need.  We estimate that last year alone, the total sales value of the clothing we gave out was approximately $30,000! It is our hope that the community will continue to support this important need by donating to our fundraiser, which will help cover the cost of these discounts.
