A Hand Up from the Community

Mr. John has been a partner of Tree of Life for over five years. He has lived and worked in the NOVA region for most of his life; he was employed by the school system for many years. At some point, John retired from his job and, due to circumstances unknown to us, became homeless. He has been living out of his truck, at the homeless shelter, and in a tent since the time of our introduction to him.

Recently, one of our contacts from Destiny Church who also works for the Loudoun County Housing Program, shared the news that there was an apartment opening in a senior living complex. John’s name was on their list to get into the apartment, but he would some financial assistance to make it happen. Although John receives Social Security, he would need help to cover $250 of the monthly rent for the first year. If Tree of Life could help cover this initial financial need, he would then be eligible for a grant through the county for assistance for the following two years. This would in turn provide John time to save money for future lease payments for years to come.

By God’s provision, Tree of Life was able to help offer a Hand Up to John. And today, John is happy to finally have a place to call home!

Galentines Returns to The Clothing Closet

February 8th was a very special evening at our Gospel enterprise, The Clothing Closet! Staff hosted the ladies and their mentors from our Transitional Housing Program for Galentines. They were treated to a private shopping experience and refreshments to let them know how much they are loved. This is just one more way that this boutique impacts the community with A Bit More.

Tree of Life is hiring a Coffee Shop Manager who will be excited to share Jesus with staff, customers, and the Leesburg community. We are looking for a leader to manage daily operations and motivate SimplyBe Coffee staff to provide a joyous customer experience. Previous business management experience is required. STRONG, FIRM AND STEADFAST

1 Peter 5:6-11
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To Him be the power for ever and ever.  Amen.

The words “Strong, Firm and Steadfast” jump off the page at me, as these are attributes that “the God of all grace” plans to use to restore me from my suffering. The word “strong” indicates that God will bring me through to be able to uphold and stand in place, in soul, mind and body, and will be standing ready and prepared, and will not hesitate or waiver. The word “firm” indicates that He will make me stable and constant (again, in soul, mind and body), and that I will be “still” in the Lord. The word “steadfast” indicates that He will make me able to withstand anything in His established foundation—including His WAY, His TRUTH and His LIFE.

With this kind of assurance from the Lord, I want to honor Him with everything I have.  He wants me to free from anxiety from whatever I’m afraid of, so I’m going to give all my anxiety to Him. He wants me to be alert and of sober mind, so I’m going to give all my distractions to Him. He also wants me to recognize that I’m not going through this alone—there are actually many throughout the world undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

What He wants me to see is that HE is upholding me, guiding me, directing me and cleansing me from anxiety and distractions.  Whenever I turn to Him, and I turn my anxiety and distractions over to Him, He makes me strong, firm and steadfast IN HIM.

Lord, THANK YOU for giving me this word of encouragement today. I can’t wait to see what You do next in my life!
