August Newsletter
A Note from our CEO
Dear Tree of Life Community,
Many of you received my email in July letting you know of our shortfall in funds for the year. It has been truly humbling to see the amazing response to our request for help during this challenging period. We are so grateful to those who have been able to donate and the many that reached out with support and prayer. THANK YOU!
As we move forward with our full calendar of ministry activities, the need is still prevalent but we are confident that God will continue to provide and help us meet our funding needs. Please consider giving as the Lord will lead you and know that donations of all amounts make a huge impact.
Thank you again, for your support in giving, volunteering, and praying.
All for Him,
Susannah Lee
Care for the Vulnerable
On July 20th, our Eastern Loudoun region held a special dental event for local children at Crossroads Baptist Church in Leesburg.
Thirty-five children received FREE dental care, including cleanings and evaluations, from Drs. Joon and Julie Coe of Dental Innovations of Virginia. Some of the children had never seen a dentist before and the doctors did an amazing job working with each child and family to provide needed care and information.
The bilingual volunteers at the event, including many from Crossroads Baptist Church’s Spanish-speaking congregation, provided invaluable assistance with translation, as well as praying and talking with the families, and sharing the Gospel.
It was a fantastic event, and we are so grateful to the Coes for their generosity and to the volunteers who gave their time to help make this day a huge success.
Fellowship and Fun
Our Day Break Ministry’s first ever Game Day was a hit!
We had a great turn out and the attendees enjoyed lots of games, fellowship, and pizza. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Purcellville, for hosting this fun event.

Working Hands with Serve Camp
The gardens at our transitional housing units got a make-over on Monday thanks to volunteers from Serve Camp! These teens worked hard to weed, mulch, clean up debris, and plant new flowers for our partners.
And thanks to Abernethy & Spencer Greenhouses we got a great deal on mulch!
We truly appreciate these community partnerships – they are invaluable as we continue our mission of reaching out to the poor and needy in our community with the love of Jesus.
If you’d like to support our transitional housing program, please consider donating to our fundraiser – it would make a huge impact!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
This month, we are highlighting Mike O’Brien!
Mike joined us in March of this year in our Purcellville Food Pantry and has quickly become a faithful and vital volunteer in Western Loudoun with 150 hours of service!
Mike goes above and beyond to support our pantry. In addition to the regular tasks of stocking, sorting, and donation recieving, he also works hard to help us maintain the facility. A registered electrician, he helped rewire the antique clock in our new center, installed ceiling fans in the pantry, and assists with any issues that come up.
We are so grateful for Mike’s support and his commitment to our pantry. He has a heart for those in need and loves being a part of our amazing pantry team in Western Loudoun.
Thank you, Mike, for helping us reach out to those in need with the love of Christ!
DONOR SPOTLIGHT
A huge thank you to our donor spotlight this month… Matt Bowe and Alair Homes Hunt Country!
Matt reached out to us to support our Gospel Enterprises in Leesburg – The Clothing Closet and SimplyBe Coffee – with a sales match day!
On July 23rd, all sales at both shops were DOUBLED because of Alair Homes’ generousity. That means that everyone who shopped that day was able to make double the impact in supporting those in need in the Loudoun community.
Matt and his staff also came out personally to shop and video to help promote both “clothing with a cause” and “coffee with a cause.” We are so grateful to him and Alair for their support

THANK YOU
“We thank you, O God! We give thanks because You are near. People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 75:1
My prayers are filled with my requests for God; however, my prayers should also be filled with thanksgiving for all that He has provided.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6-10).
In expressing my gratitude to my Lord, I acknowledge His sovereignty over everything. I let him know that His name is holy, and I tell Him how much I want HIS will to be done.
God’s will is done in heaven ALL THE TIME. I desire for God’s will to be done in my life just the same.
Today I thank God for a myriad of things, not the least of which include Tree of Life, the people we serve, our volunteers and our donors. I thank God for each of you.
May you be blessed,
Chaplain Wayne Ruckman
